STERLING ORDERS MORGAN EQUIPMENT FOR UPGRADED MILL
16 August 2002 - Morgan Construction Company
| Sterling Steel Company, LLC, which is in the process of upgrading a recently closed mill, has signed a contract with Morgan Construction Company for the design, manufacture and installation of Morgan's patented StelmorŪ controlled cooling conveyor in their single-strand rod mill. |
John Foley, General Manager, Contract Administration, said that the order includes not only the mechanical equipment, but also the electrical motors, drives and controls as well as the turnkey installation of the project. Sterling, a subsidiary of Leggett & Plant, will operate the mill, formerly owned and operated by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. When the project is completed in February 2003, the mill will produce wire rod with improved metallurgical properties. These rod products will be used by the other operations of Leggett & Platt, a diversified manufacturer of a broad variety of engineered components and products.
