GSW WORLD CLASS MODERNIZATION
20 September 2000 - Morgan Construction Company
| Global Steel and Wire, S.A., of Santander, Spain, have recently completed the latest development phase of their rod mill.
|
According to Michael Shore, vice president, Engineering Rolling Mill Technology, who recently returned from a visit to GSW's mill, 'This upgrade consists of two strands of reducing/sizing mill rolling units with Morgan’s latest single gear box design.' He said that the mill's upgrade enables GSW to produce rod to an accuracy tolerance better than ±0.1 mm with an ovality better than 0.1 mm. In addition, the size range is 5.5 mm to 26 mm diameter, with a single family rolling schedule, as well as 'free sizing' ability. According to Félix López, Rolling Mill Director of GSW’s Santander rod mill, 'We have already achieved new production records of 2500 tonnes/24 hours, even with our furnace limited to a capacity of 105 tonnes/hour. Thermo-mechanical rolling is also possible making us one of the world’s leading producers of quality carbon steels.' 'Future development improvements to GSW’s Santander rod mill are also in consideration which will further benefit GSW’s customers.' Shore added.
