Brazilian Steel Mill Orders Upgrade From Morgan

Morgan Construction Company, through its Morgan do Brasil division, Sao Paulo, Brazil, has received a contract from Siderugica Barra Mansa S.A. for a major upgrade to its existing single-strand mill in its headquarters plant in Barra Mansa.


This is Morgan's first contract with Barra Mansa, which is part of the Votorantin Group, one of the largest industrial groups in Brazil. According to Fernando Guerra, president of Morgan do Brasil, 'The contract calls for the design and manufacture of No-Housing stands, along with crop and cobble shears, pinch roll units, uploopers, and all required interstand equipment.

When the upgrade is completed, the mill will be designed for a 25 percent production increase to 400,000 tonnes annually. The mill produces 8 mm to 28 mm rebar. The upgraded mill is expected to be installed by the first half of next year.
