ARCTIC CAT MOUNTAIN SNOWMOBILES TO FEATURE TITANIUM SPRINGS USING DYNAMET UPG™ BETA MATERIAL
04 December 2003 - Carpenter Technology Corporation
| UPG™ (Ultimate Performance Grade) Beta titanium material made by Dynamet Incorporated will be used in the drive clutch, torsion and suspension springs on the 2004 Arctic Cat King Cat mountain snowmobiles - believed to be the first time that titanium springs will be standard on a manufacturer's original equipment snowmobile. The springs are being manufactured by Renton Coil Spring Company (RCS), in Renton, Wash. |
For several years, RCS has provided titanium springs to the Arctic Cat factory race team for use in snocross racing. Snocross champion Tucker Hibbert had tested RCS' titanium spring technology, winning five national championships with Arctic Cat sleds using RCS coil springs. Titanium coil springs are designed to improve steering, ride and pitch control, while lowering sled weight and reducing rider fatigue. 'Dynamet's material has provided advantages to snocross competitors and will now benefit recreational snowmobilers as well,' says Brian Brandstetter, manager of marketing at Dynamet. 'Our partnership with RCS has allowed Dynamet to expand our participation in the powersports market, an exciting new segment for us, and to show that titanium is a versatile material with many advantages over traditional spring alloys.'
