SANDVIK PROCESS SYSTEMS FOCUSES ON MANUFACTURING CAPABILITY AND SERVICE STRENGTHS FOR LINGNA 2005
02 March 2005 - Sandvik Materials Technology UK

At this years’ Ligna show, steel belt manufacturer Sandvik Process Systems, a product area within Sandvik Materials Technology, will announce a significant extension to its belt manufacturing capability and will highlight its service support strengths, through a global network of service engineers and in the form of its growing range of QuickTools.

With demand growing for ever larger steel belts, the company is extending its production capacity to handle belts up to 170 m long without intermediate cross welds, sufficient for all currently operating press lengths. Alongside the existing ability to produce belts up to 4620 mm wide, this puts the company in a position to satisfy virtually any belt requirement.

There is an increasingly wide range of tools designed to enable in-house personnel to carry out belt maintenance and repair tasks quickly and easily. Among the new tools to be launched this year is the QuickCleaner, a unit consisting of a bank of oscillating brushes, which can be used to remove deposits, such as glue, that can build up on a belt.

Other tools in the range include the Sandvik QuickDisc, used for repairing cracks and other damage by inserting a disc into the belt; the Sandvik QuickProfiler, a portable tool for measuring the surface profile of a belt; and the Sandvik QuickDresser, an adjustable unit for redressing belt edges to a smooth and round shape.

The emphasis on service strength will also feature the company’s extensive service network, which comprises teams of trained engineers, available to resolve service, repair and maintenance issues anywhere in the world.

Having established a global service capability, Sandvik Process Systems is able to provide further support in the form of service seminars. Designed to help customers maximise their return on investment, these seminars can be tailored to particular customer needs but will generally cover planned maintenance and the theory and practice of belt repair. Seminars can be staged either at a customer’s own premises or local Sandvik offices. Sandvik Process Systems service specialists will be on hand throughout the Ligna show to discuss specific requirements in this field.

As part of the overall service promotion campaign, Sandvik Process Systems will be launching an updated version of its Service Tools CD-ROM, an interactive program offering videos, service instructions and a full breakdown of the tools available.
