VESTERLED OPENING WITH E-BUSINESS SOLUTION FOR CAPACITY BOOKING
27 September 2001 - Hydro Aluminium

On Monday, October 1, deliveries are ready to begin through the new Vesterled gas pipeline running between the Heimdal installation in the Norwegian offshore sector to the St. Fergus gas terminal in Scotland - via the Frigg pipeline system.

Work to prepare the Heimdal gas center is on time for the start-up of Vesterled.

Norsk Hydro has additionally developed an e-business solution for reserving pipeline transport capacity in Vesterled. The web-based reservation system is at GasViaVesterled.com.

The new Vesterled pipeline will have an annual capacity of 11 billion standard cubic meters of gas. Total investments in the system have reached NOK 950 million (USD 108 million). Vesterled Joint Venture is operated by Hydro.

Vesterled creates the possibility to increase gas deliveries from the Norwegian sector to the UK and generates flexibility within the gas export system. The new pipeline also prolongs the lifetime of the existing pipeline infrastructure in the Frigg system.

The former Heimdal production platform, operated by Hydro, serves as a key connection point and processing facility for Norwegian gas. In addition to its own gas output, Heimdal will receive gas from the Hydro-operated Oseberg installation as well as processing the Huldra gas and later gas from other fields.

The e-business solution GasViaVesterled offers all owners of gas in the Norwegian sector a transport option from Heimdal to St. Fergus. Standardized blocks of capacity can be reserved on a daily, monthly or yearly basis. The system is designed so that reserved capacity, not throughput, pay for the shipments of gas.
