M&G’S ACTITUF LAUNCHED IN ADDITIONAL MARKETS WITH INTERBREW
19 August 2003 - M&G Group

The M&G Group today announces expanded commercial use of its pioneering ActiTUF resin in Eastern Europe by a major international brewer, Interbrew, which is using it to bottle its Bergenbier® (for Romania) and Kamenitza® (for Bulgaria) beers.

The move follows the successful introduction of ActiTUF technology by M&G earlier this year when it employed in Interbrew’s new beer packaging Pivopack® for the Klinskoye® brand in Russia.

The ActiTUF barrier technology is proprietary to M&G and made up of active oxygen scavenging system and a passive gas barrier system, which enables beer to remain fresh for longer, thus extending shelf life. These components are being incorporated by M&G into special preforms designed to meet the exacting requirements of Interbrew. The preforms are made by M&G’s European Packaging Business Unit using standard PET injection moulding machines. No loss of process efficiency or effectiveness is experienced.

Marco Ghisolfi, CEO and shareholder in M&G says, “We are extremely pleased with the continued confidence Interbrew is showing with the ActiTUF technology. We are expecting this technology to have wider applications such as juices and other oxygen sensitive beverages and not only in Central and Eastern Europe. I am looking forward to the day we can announce successful developments in USA and the EU countries.”

Brent Willis, Chief Commercial Officer Interbrew confirmed the company’s commitment to PET packaging, “Interbrew believes that PET will increasingly become an important packaging material for beer, not only because of its high consumer convenience but also due to its inherent flexibility which allows designers to develop new, exciting shapes and designs for the traditional beer bottle'.

M&G will be presenting technical information about ActiTUF technology at the NovaPack conference in Munich, Germany and the Packaging Strategies conference in Atlanta, USA. Both conferences are scheduled for October 2003.
