COMMITTING TO ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

“This is a relatively small effort for the individual, but it could produce great results,” says Göran Bergman from the Environment and Health Department, responsible for the program. “The courses started back in 2001, and by next spring all our employees will have participated.”

The main purpose of the program is:
- to give our staff an overall picture of how their workplace affects the environment.
- to give our staff an understanding of how their workplace deals with environmental issues.
- to gain knowledge of how to manage our external environmental system.
- to understand that involvement and knowledge are prerequisites for prosperous environmental work.

Gaining information on SSAB’s environmental goals and different global threats to the environment are other parts of the program. The environmental education program is a step towards certification in accordance to the international standards of environmental management, ISO 14001.
