A CLEAR WINNER FROM ARALDITE
31 May 2003 - Huntsman Araldite

Araldite 2026 from the Araldite range of structural adhesives has proved a clear winner for Italian company CEL, who needed a transparent adhesive to bond polycarbonate components in a refrigerated vending machine.

Verona-based CEL had been looking for a transparent adhesive for sometime which was able to bond the two half-moon shaped halves of the dispenser doors, measuring 15cm x 50cm and made of clear polycarbonate. The invisibility of the bond was an essential requirement in order to maintain the integrity of the design.

Araldite 2026 was the only adhesive CEL tried on this application which was able to provide a truly transparent bond with no sign of any residue or adhesive visible along the bonding line. Other products had left smudge marks or were clearly visible along the bondline.

Araldite 2026 was also able to provide the required level of mechanical strength for the bond and to withstand temperatures from around 4°C to over 30°C.
Araldite 2026 is a two-component polyurethane adhesive that cures at room temperature and provides a flexible, totally transparent bond across a wide range of substrates. It is particularly suitable for engineering plastics and thermoplastics as well as glass and metal.

CEL chose Araldite 2026 for this application after successfully using Araldite 2027 to bond polycarbonate/ABS alloy tables for fitting in truck cabins. These too had to withstand tough wear and environmental conditions while being an aesthetically pleasing design.

“We have been processing plastic parts through injection moulding for over 20 years,” said Mr Pericati, Head of Assembly Production at CEL. “Today we use highly advanced computer controlled technology for the production of high quality parts for heating systems, refrigeration systems, air conditioning units, domestic appliances and so on. “We know the Araldite range of adhesives can provide the versatility and excellent bonding strength we need for these parts.”
