ONE FOR THE ROAD AS ARALDITE® BONDS MOTORCARAVANS

A Tuscany-based French-Italian company, Trigano designs and manufactures motorcaravans for sale to dealers all over the world. Trigano’s vehicles are not only expected to be built and run to high standards but to be aesthetically appealing as well.

In this specific application, Araldite 2022 adhesive was used to bond the external walls of the motor-caravan to some fibreglass components and also the joint between the motor-caravan body and the chassis.

These joints were designed for bonding as this gives a much cleaner finished
appearance than welding or riveting. “After a thorough investigation and comparative tests on several adhesives”, said Giorgio Calderoni, Product Development Manager at Trigano, “Araldite 2022 performed better than the other products thanks to its bonding strength on the substrates involved in this application such as aluminium, fibreglass, ABS and PMMA.

“The joints we bond also have to withstand extreme working conditions such as
accidental shocks during the assembly operations, vibrations and heavy loads,” added Giorgio Calderoni. “Araldite 2022 successfully met all these requirements, as proved by the static load tests carried out on the bonded joints”.

“Also, its short curing time enabled us to build the caravans more quickly and therefore increase our production run rate.”

Araldite 2022 is a reinforced two-component methacrylate adhesive which cures at room temperature. It is recommended for fast assembly operations on a wide range of substrates such as plastics, composites and metals. It shows excellent long term durability and strength, is resistant to oils and gap filling up to 4mm.
Almost half of the 10,000 motor-caravans produced by Trigano each year have
components bonded by Araldite 2022.
