MIND THE DOORS! ARALDITE USED ON GERMAN SUBURBAN RAILWAY CARS

Schlösser Metallbau GmbH, based in Nürnberg are one of Germany’s leading
companies in the development, production and assembly of metal parts for railway
carriages. Their engineers chose Araldite® 2015 for this application because of its
good flexibility and impact strength – critical factors in the construction of the B 423
cars.

Part of the widely used Araldite® 2000 range of structural adhesives, which cater for virtually every industrial joining requirement, Araldite® 2015 is a room temperature curing paste adhesive giving a resilient bond.

It is thixotropic and resistant to sag even up to 10mm thickness. It is particularly
suitable for SMC and GRP bonding as well as for various metal substrates, and is
available in easy to apply 400ml cartridges.

For the B 423 cab door frames, Araldite® 2015 was applied to the chromated
aluminium frame profiles, after they had been degreased with acetone and primed.
Additional adhesive was then injected through boreholes to ensure complete
coverage. The profiles were then held together with clamps and cured at room
temperature for eight hours.

Engineers at Schlösser Metallbau reported that they were particularly impressed with Araldite® 2015’s excellent flexibility and impact strength to resist dynamic loads, as well as its thixotrophy, absence of sagging and good environmental resistance.

versatility of the Araldite® 2000 range,” said John McHugh, UK Sales Manager,
Vantico Adhesives. “The characteristics of Araldite® 2015, especially its impact
strength and environmental resistance, make it particularly suitable for tough,
demanding applications such as this, in HDV transportation.”
