ARALDITE® MAKES PLAIN SAILING FOR RACING YACHTS

Araldite 2022 is a two- component toughened methacrylate adhesive system designed to bond a wide range of plastics, composites and metals. It has excellent resistance to petrol and oils and requires only minimal pretreatment. Araldite 2022 is fast curing and gap filling to 4mm.

The adhesive is used to fix together different components of the yacht, which involves the bonding of dissimilar substrates, such as polystyrene, aluminium, steel and various engineering plastics.

José Coello, Manager of Sinergia Composites, explains: “We were particularly impressed with the strength of Araldite 2022 and its good resistance to the harsh environmental conditions encountered at sea, as well as its excellent bonding properties to the wide range of substrates involved in the construction of our racing yachts. The bonding technology we used previously was based on polyester chemistries, which, unlike Araldite 2022, was not able to withstand the intensive strain put on the bonded joints during racing. We also like the ease of application provided by the cartridge system.”

Sinergia Composites carried out several tests under racing conditions which the joints bonded with Araldite withstood without damage.
