ARALDITE® WINS OLYMPIC GOLD
30 March 2002 - Huntsman Araldite

The final stone served by team captain Rhona Martin to win Olympic Gold for Great Britain at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics was bonded with Araldite 2013 from Vantico's Araldite 2000 series of structural adhesives.

The range provides a bonding solution for every fastening requirement, particularly for new, non-metallic substrates such as composites and engineering plastics.

Kays of Scotland, based at Mauchline, Ayrshire, who manufacture the Ailsa stones
used by the British curling team, are using Araldite 2013 from Vantico to bond the
very hard Ailsa granite running surface insert into the base of the curling stone.

Donald Macrae, Chief Executive of Kays of Scotland, comments: “We are delighted
with the success of the British curling team and are proud to have contributed to it
with our stones. We have been using Araldite for over 35 years and it is an absolutely vital part of our production process. “

Araldite 2013 is a metal-coloured two-component epoxy paste adhesive. It is
thixotropic, gap filling and non sagging up to 5mm thickness, and shows good
environmental and chemical resistance. Although it is designed as a metal bonding
adhesive it is also suitable for bonding other materials such as ceramics, glass,
rubber, rigid plastics and most other materials in common use.
