BAYER POLYMERS INTRODUCES NEW AROMATIC THERMOPLASTIC POLYURETHANES
12 November 2003 - Bayer MaterialScience AG

Bayer Polymers’ expands its line of aromatic Desmopan® thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with the addition of four new grades. These new grades are highly transparent even with thick walls, provide increased UV stability, and have a significantly lower yellow value than standard grades. Each grade can be injection molded or extruded.

'These new aromatic grades were primarily designed with ski boots and sports and leisure footwear in mind,' said Bayer Polymers’ Gerry DiBattista, market channel manager – TPU injection molding. 'Along with good transparency, the new grades provide good abrasion resistance and high tear propagation strength.'

Besides typical injection molded applications where clarity and toughness are needed, the new aromatic Desmopan TPU grades can be used for extruded parts such as tubing or belts.

The TPU grades can also be enhanced with Bayer Polymers’ Fantasia® colors and special effects technologies. Fantasia includes five technologies and more than 100 colors and special effects for use with various Bayer Polymers materials. 'Fantasia provides even more design options for this new TPU material,' said DiBattista. 'For example, you can produce clear parts and custom color them quickly to meet specific customer demands.'
