BAYER POLYMERS RESEARCHERS DISCUSS NEW GENERATION OF WATERBORNE POLYURETHANE TOPCOATS FOR FLOORING APPLICATIONS
26 October 2003 - Bayer MaterialScience AG
| Karl H. Wuehrer, Business Development Manager-Flooring, and Dr. Edward P. Squiller, Technical Director, will present their paper Monday afternoon, October 27, here during The Society for Protective Coatings Conference. |
Their paper is entitled A New Generation of Waterborne Polyurethane Topcoats for Flooring. In their presentation, Wuehrer and Squiller will review and compare the performance characteristics of past, present and future topcoats used in flooring applications. 'Recently developed solvent-free topcoats appear to have met the property and performance standards of the solventborne topcoats,' Wuehrer said. 'However, their application characteristics make them somewhat difficult to apply.' 'What we're seeing now, with the given data at hand, new generation waterborne topcoats are an adequate replacement for the commonly used solventborne topcoats. The waterborne topcoats have comparable performance to the solventborne topcoats, are as easy to apply, and don't present VOC concerns,' explained Squiller.
