BAYER PRESENTS TECHNICAL PAPER ON CSR OF ELASTOMERS USED IN ENGINE SEALING AT ACS RUBBER EXPO 03
14 October 2003 - Bayer MaterialScience AG
| This presentation will discuss the use of compression stress relaxation (CSR) as a benchmarking tool in differentiating sealing retention capabilities of a series of typical automotive engineering elastomers. |
Hydrogenated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (TherbanÒ HNBR) possesses an excellent combination of physical properties (high tensile strength) as well as heat and oil resistance. This unique combination of high strength and aging resistance leads to excellent sealing force retention in engine oils. The effects of aeration versus non-aeration on the elastomer compounds will be shown and contrasted. Finally, this presentation will shed more light into the understanding of CSR testing and its use as a criterium for engine sealing in the automotive industry.
