BAYER CONTINUES SPONSORSHIP OF JR. DRAGSTER TEAM
14 October 2003 - Bayer MaterialScience AG
| The link between racing and the synthetic rubber product is understandable. Therban® (HNBR) is Bayer Polymers' original high performance elastomer, specifically engineered for durability in aggressive high temperature, high pressure environments. |
What better way to demonstrate its qualities than to show how it performs under extreme drag racing conditions? Now entering their sixth and fifth year of competition in the NHRA/IHRA Top Alcohol Jr. Dragster class are Brittany, 16, and Cody, 12, daughter and son of JFC founder Mario Galaviz. Both young people have developed enviable professional and life skills because of their racing. Blasting the length of a football field in just four seconds is an intense test of focus, skill, and faith. This sister and brother team race dragsters designed as half-scale alcohol-fueled replicas built to the same specification as the National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA) and International Hot Rod Association's (IHRA) Top Fuel dragster class. Concentration, control and trust in their equipment and team are essential as they roar to the finish line, their dragsters emblazoned with the Therban® logo. Ethan Sigler, responsible for Bayer's Therban® HNBR product line says, 'this is a unique way for us to demonstrate both corporate leadership and our commitment to youth and education. Brittany and Cody are bright, competitive young people who are terrific community spokespersons. Their team has enjoyed tremendous success on the track but, more importantly, they demonstrate the positive reinforcement of sound values, interpersonal skills and teamwork in everyday life. As a sponsor, we benefit not only at the track, but wherever and whenever the cars are displayed.' As JFC's Mario Galaviz explains, 'more people see your team and race cars away from the drag strip.' He recalls one display at the Southeast Texas State Fair Motorsports Expo that attracted more than 500,000 attendees. As a result, media coverage and exposure has been extensive over the past four years. He also points out that corporate sponsorship, like Bayer's, encourages and offers exciting prospects for the NHRA Junior Dragsters. 'We really appreciate the opportunity to represent Bayer and Therban® (HNBR),' says Mario. 'It not only allows us to improve our program but we are really proud to represent Bayer. Bayer's community involvement and goal to promote science and math (through its Making Science Make Sense® project) gives us a solid platform for our program.' With regular race reports, trackside displays, driver appearances, and successful results, the Therban® (HNBR) racing team is quickly attracting the recognition of a wider audience as the duo participate in National and Divisional drag racing events.
