BAYER POLYMERS LLC LAUNCHES NEW AQUEOUS ADHESIVE RAW MATERIAL
30 September 2003 - Bayer MaterialScience AG

Dispercoll S silica gels are a series of silica gel dispersions that are expected to outperform alternatives in a range of applications. Extensive lab testing has shown that in conjunction with Dispercoll C polychloroprene latices, Dispercoll S silica gels have been able to improve wet bond strength and lengthen open time, as well as improve viscosity and heat stability.

According to Mims Mathers, Bayer's Adhesives & Sealants Marketing Channel Manager, 'This new product line is an exciting addition to our current family of successful Dispercoll C polychloroprene latex products. We expect Dispercoll S silica gels to become the additive of choice for use in a variety of polychloroprene latex adhesive applications including foam bonding, shoe assembly, wood lamination and construction.'

'Our Dispercoll S silica gels offer particle sizes from 9 nm to 55 nm to meet the full spectrum of customer requirements,' added Mathers. 'As such, we also expect Dispercoll S silica gels to pave the way for expanding applications of polychloroprene latex adhesives.'

Craig Jansen, Bayer's Adhesives & Sealants Technical Specialist, added, 'This exciting product line will increase the possibility of using water-borne polychloroprene adhesives in applications where they do not have the necessary heat resistance or open time. There is a strong movement from solvent-borne to water-borne adhesive systems within the industry because of environmental concerns raised by the use of solvents. We think our new Dispercoll S silica gel line will help accelerate this trend.'
