FORMER BAYER CORPORATION BUSINESS GROUPS RECOGNIZE M. F. CACHAT COMPANY AND D. H. LITTER COMPANY WITH 2002 DISTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR AWARDS
15 September 2003 - Bayer MaterialScience AG

Representatives of the former Polyurethanes Division and the former Coatings Division of Bayer Corporation have presented 2002 Distributor of the Year Awards to The M. F. Cachat Company, Cleveland, Ohio, and the D. H. Litter Company, Elmsford, N.Y., respectively.

The award, presented annually, recognizes both companies' outstanding performance as regional distributors of Bayer's isocyanate, polyol, prepolymer, elastomer and spray elastomer products.

The companies earned the awards based on a number of factors, including increased sales activity and volume, new business generation, the introduction and sale of newly developed products, and excellent communications with Bayer, according to Flo Pippin, Manager of Distributor Sales for Bayer Polymers.

'2002 represents the last year that individual awards will be given,' Pippin added. 'In 2003, the creation of Bayer Polymers LLC - combining our former Polyurethanes, Coatings, Plastics and Rubber Divisions into one business group - also resulted in the formation of one distributor group responsible for coatings, polyurethanes and adhesive products.

'With one distributor group responsible for marketing all Bayer Polymers' products, our distributors will be able to focus their efforts on providing the industry with the widest range of urethane products for applications involving adhesives, coatings and polyurethanes,' concluded Pippin.

D. H. Litter Company President Michael Granito said, 'Winning this award is wonderful. Our Northeast market is not dynamic. Much of our industrial base has moved South and West, so we have to work hard to drive sales. Winning the award adds an exclamation point at the end of a very good job that we've done this year. This is the first time we've won the award, so we will position it as a goal for next year. We'd like to win it again.'

Granito added that D. H. Litter has been working with Bayer for more than 20 years, since Bayer adopted a distributor sales strategy. 'During that time,' he continued, 'we could not have had a more positive relationship. Bayer representatives are professional and eminently fair. We look forward to continuing our relationship, growing the business and winning the award again.'

Ed Sherwood, Vice President of The M. F. Cachat Company, said of the award, 'We are very excited and pleased to receive this award. Bayer is one of our top principals. As a distributor, we like to be aligned with the top one or two manufacturers in each product area we represent, and Bayer certainly fits that scenario. We're honored to be recognized by them.

'We've had a good record of continued growth in sales of Bayer products,' Sherwood continued, 'and we're optimistic about our performance in 2004. Because we sell specialty chemicals, we are not as dependent as some companies on the economy. Bayer's reputation as a top supplier of specialty chemicals is a big help to us in our selling effort.'
