MILENA™ COLORING TECHNOLOGY FOR OPTICAL MEDIA IS PART OF BAYER'S FANTASIA® COLORS AND SPECIAL EFFECTS PROGRAM
22 June 2003 - Bayer MaterialScience AG

With Milena technology, color concentrates supplied by Clariant Masterbatches are metered directly into the feed throat of a molding machine, which results in the customers having a cleaner and more efficient mix-and-match coloring process.

The color concentrates are dye-based and tested prior to use to ensure that they will not interfere with how the laser reads the data on the CD or DVD.

'Milena is more time efficient and cost effective compared to conventional coloring processes because it requires fewer procedures, less equipment, and eliminates the need for customers to buy several different pre-colored resins,' said John Skabardonis, Fantasia marketing manager at Bayer Polymers. 'It's also an ideal technology for small runs since the colors are added to clear resins.'

Together, Bayer and Clariant can also better address customers' issues with uniform mixing, streaks, black specks, and concentrate handling procedures. 'Our working relationship enables us to troubleshoot problems and help customers achieve better yields,' added Skabardonis.

Milena Is Part of Bayer Polymers' Fantasia Colors and Special Effects Program
