BAYER NAMES POLYMERS AMERICAS MANAGEMENT TEAM

'The worldwide Bayer Group recently completed the most far-reaching reorganization in its history,' said Ian Paterson, Head of Bayer Polymers' Americas Region and President and CEO of Bayer Polymers LLC.

'Our new Americas Region management team has the talent and dedication to move our enterprise from a product orientation to one focused firmly on customer needs,' he said. Reporting to Paterson:

Gerald F. MacCleary is Head of the Performance Systems Division, which serves customers who use a large number of products meeting broad applications. Previously, he was Vice President -- Business Management in Bayer's Styrenics Group. He joined Bayer in 1979 as a general accountant and has held several financial analyst, sales and marketing management positions in the U.S. and Germany.

Rainer W. Schorr, previously Vice President of Bayer's adhesive material and special coatings business, is Head of the Performance Materials Division. The division serves customers who purchase a limited number of standardized products in large volumes.

Schorr, who joined Bayer in 1986, has garnered extensive international experience with the Bayer Group in Germany, Italy, Central and South America and the U.S.

Peter Vanacker is Head of the Polymer Solutions Division, which serves customers wanting specific, tailor-made solutions for their individual market needs. He was most recently Vice President of the Polyurethanes Specialties Business Group for the NAFTA Region. He joined Bayer's polyurethanes operations in Belgium in 1990 as a technical account manager and has held international marketing and technical assignments of increasing responsibility in The Netherlands, Germany, South America and the U.S.

Dennis Duff continues as President, Sheffield Plastics, Inc., a wholly-owned Bayer subsidiary since 1999. He joined Sheffield Plastics in 1988, where he held positions of increasing responsibility, including Sales Manager and Vice President, Marketing and Sales. He was appointed President in 1995.

Barry A. Phillips, Ph.D., is Head of Business Development. Prior to his current position, he was Senior Vice President -- NAFTA Region Polyurethanes Production and Technology. He joined Bayer as a senior chemist in 1977 and has held positions of increasing responsibility in polyurethanes research, applications and development, and administration and planning.

John B. Houston, formerly Vice President of Bayer's NAFTA Insulation Business Group, is Head of Bayer Polymers -- Regional Service Center. Among his many responsibilities during his 24-year Bayer career, he was the U.S. project leader of the international SAP project for the polymers and chemicals businesses.

Don Hummel, most recently Senior Vice President of NAFTA Marketing for Bayer's Rubber Business Group, is Head of Business Support and Administration. He joined Bayer in 1984 and rose through various accounting, marketing, sales and services procurement positions in the U.S., Canada and Germany.

Armin Burmeister is Head of the Latin America Sub-Region and President of Bayer S.A. Brazil, with headquarters in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Burmeister joined Bayer in 1981 and has 15 years of international experience, including terms of service in France, China and Hong Kong.
