BAYER FIBERS GROUP IN USA TO INTRODUCE NEW TECHNOLOGIES AT IHE SHOW
01 May 2003 - Bayer MaterialScience AG
| The Fibers Group of Bayer Polymers LLC will introduce its latest advances in the hosiery industry at the 2003 International Hosiery Exposition and Conference (IHE) in Charlotte, N.C., in early May. |
These include a new hosiery waistband technology and the reduced level of spin finish on Dorlastanâ Bayer SpandexĹÔ . New Hosiery Waistband Technology Due to the efforts of the Bayer Bushy Park technical service team in Goose Creek, S.C., and manufacturers of tension control devices and hosiery knitters, it is possible to run Dorlastanâ directly from the spinning supply package, totally eliminating the rewinding process. Using manufacturers' new state-of-the-art yarn feeders and running from the spinning supply package, problems associated with high tension of the waistband yarn can be overcome due to a substantially lower tension. Using the new process, the yarn is already elongated by approximately 12 percent on the spinning supply package thereby requiring less force to elongate it in knitting. Although a rewound package is still available to those manufacturers that do not have accumulator feeders, more and more knitters are seeing cost and quality benefits associated with the new hosiery waistband technology. The company is currently planning to have this technology demonstrated at the IHE show. Dorlastanâ Low-Finish-Generation The new Low-Finish-Generation used in Dorlastanâ titers, ranging from 140-1680 denier, enhances fiber performance as well as offers important environmental benefits. By reducing the amount of lubricant required in production, not only is fabric preparation made easier but machine operation is cleaner. For example, the amount of detergent required for pre-scouring by using the new Low Finish Dorlastanâ can be reduced almost in half, depending on the washing unit and process used. Depending on the lubricant used on non-elastic fibers, rinse times after pre-scouring may also be cut in half, resulting in possible production savings for treating exhaust air. IHE Show During the IHE show, Bayer's booth (#1511) will also feature the latest development for sports and leisurewear and seamless underwear made of microfiber/Dorlastanâ . Dorlastanâ Bayer Polymers has Dorlastanâ plants located in Goose Creek, S.C., (Bushy Park) and Dormagen, Germany. The Dorlastanâ Fibers facility in Goose Creek completed its first major expansion in 2000 and plays an integral part in helping Bayer meet customer demands. The North American expansion, combined with an expansion in Dormagen, doubled Bayer's global production capacity of Dorlastanâ using the new polymerization and spinning technology developed in Dormagen.
