HENNECKE MACHINERY PRESENTS SHORT COURSE IN FOAM FORMATION AND BLOWING AGENT SELECTION

Hennecke Machinery Specialists will present an overview of the polyurethane raw material frothing process and review the selection of blowing agents.

Thomas A. Rompala, Senior Technical Sales Representative with Bayer Corporation's subsidiary Hennecke Machinery, Jurgen Wirth and Michael Sulzbach of Hennecke Gmbh, will present a paper entitled Polyurethane Raw Materials Frothing Process and Acceptable Blowing Agents Tuesday morning at the Alliance for the Polyurethanes Industry (API) Polyurethanes Conference 2002 here.

The authors will explain the basics of the foaming process, examine nucleation of the components, describe cell formation and structure, and assess various blowing agents and the methods of introducing them into polyurethane systems.

'The foaming of polyurethane seems to be a simple and natural matter,' Rompala said. 'However, the frothing processes are sophisticated chemical-physical reactions that still are not clearly and completely understood in all situations. We as an industry still have a lot of work to do in this area. Understanding and perfecting our current technologies will lead usto new opportunities for further refinement and innovation.

'We're doing our part to advance that understanding, and move innovation forward, with the work we're presenting in this paper.'
