BAYER CORPORATION BECOMES MEMBER OF WOOD-BASED COMPOSITES CENTER
27 August 2002 - Bayer MaterialScience AG
| Bayer Corporation has been named a Contributing Member of the Wood-Based Composites Center (WBC).
|
Established in 1999 and headquartered at Virginia Tech, the WBC Center is a group of wood composite manufacturers, suppliers and academicians who have united to provide relevant and effective education, training, research and technology transfer to those involved in the North American wood- and fiber-based composites industries. The WBC provides a forum through which wood and fiber composite manufacturers, their suppliers, and the end users of wood composite products can interact with university students and research faculty. All benefit from this collaboration, and from the Center's collective research in the areas of adhesives and adhesion, materials science, marketing and manufacturing, and performance of wood- and fiber-based composites. 'We're pleased that Bayer Corporation has joined the WBC,' said Linda Caudill, Managing Director, WBC. 'Bayer brings us another perspective. The added technical input of a major adhesive supplier broadens our knowledge base and makes us a stronger group.' 'We at Bayer see our membership in WBC as a two-way success,' said Dennis McCullough, Business Director for Bayer's Wood Products Group. 'The opportunity to conduct research hand in hand with the WBC benefits both parties,' McCullough added. 'Our membership in the WBC enables us to dovetail our research efforts with those of the best minds in academia and industry. This will help us collectively map the next direction in wood-based composites science. The WBC also conducts continuing education seminars that benefit all members.' Best known for its flagship product, Bayer Aspirin, Bayer Corporation produces a broad range of health care, crop protection, polymer and chemical products that help diagnose and treat diseases, purify water, preserve local landmarks, protect crops, advance automobile safety and durability and improve people's lives.
