BAYER CORPORATION DISPLAYS INNOVATIVE APPLICATIONS AT SPE THERMOFORMING CONFERENCE
08 October 2001 - Bayer MaterialScience AG
| From a curved, modern-looking retail gasoline pump dispenser to a recreational trailer, attendees at the SPE Thermoforming Conference in Milwaukee, Wis., can get a first-hand look at some of the diverse thermoforming applications that feature engineering resins from Bayer Corporation's Plastics Division. |
A number of Bayer's innovative applications, including those listed above, will be on display at Bayer's booth (# 316) at the SPE Thermoforming Conference, Sept. 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wis. 'In the past 20 years, thermoforming has increased in popularity as more companies become aware of the benefits of this method of plastic sheet processing,' explained Fred Zaganiacz, Business Director, Extrusion, for Bayer's Plastics Division. 'Bayer Corporation is a key supplier to this dynamic market. Our engineering resins have excellent weatherability, impact strength and durability required for today's demanding applications.' To demonstrate the wide range of thermoforming possibilities, Bayer's booth will feature a number of applications, including: American Yard Products Lawn Tractor Components - Several parts of the lawn tractor are formed using Bayer's Lustran® ABS 752 resin and Centrex® 833 weatherable polymer. SerVend Ice Maker Component - The large front panel is thermoformed from sheet capped with Bayer's Lustran 456 ABS resin. T&G Barrow Bicycle Pac-A-Saurus Bicycle Trailer - The tough body of the Pac-A-Saurus Trailer is thermoformed from sheets of Bayer's Lustran ABS 752 resin and Centrex 825 weatherable polymer. Tokheim Gasoline Dispenser - The trim for these unique, curved retail fuel dispensers is thermoformed from sheets of Bayer's Lustran ABS 752 resin and Centrex 833 weatherable polymer. Golf Cart Top - This component is formed from sheets of Bayer's Lustran ABS 752 resin capped with Centrex 833 weatherable polymer. Kiwi Trailer from Jayco - Front and rear partial caps and fender skirts on the trailer are formed using Bayer's Lustran ABS 752 resin capped with Centrex 825 weatherable polymer. In addition to supplying resins, Bayer also offers thermoformers valuable technical assistance, according to Zaganiacz. 'We are ready to help thermoformers determine which Bayer thermoplastic is best-suited for their application, and assist them with production trials, physical testing, advice on forming and secondary operations, and on-the-spot technical assistance to help ensure product quality,' he said.
