BAYER PLASTICS NOW MANUFACTURES ITS BAYFOL® CR FILM IN THE UNITED STATES
14 September 2001 - Bayer MaterialScience AG
| Bayer Plastics has added a production line at its Berlin, Conn., facility to manufacture Bayfol CR, an extruded film designed for printed overlays, nameplates and front panels in the telecommunications and hand-held electronics markets. |
Bayfol CR film is made from a polymer blend of polycarbonate (PC) and polybutylene-terephthalate (PBT). It is especially effective in products that require threedimensional forming, resistance to chemicals, and high-heat stability. For more than 15 years, Bayer has only produced Bayfol CR at its Dormagen facility in Germany. 'Increased product demands from the telecommunications and hand-held electronics markets in NAFTA made this new production line necessary in the U.S.,' said Peter Geise, head of Bayer Corporation's Film Business. 'Having production capabilities in Europe and now in NAFTA for Bayfol CR allows us to better serve the whole global market.' The use of Bayfol CR film has grown over the years due to its overall dynamic strength and chemical resistance when compared to that of traditional PC film. Even though Bayfol CR is a blend with PBT, its dimensional stability is similar to that of Bayer's proven Makrofol PC films. Bayfol CR film can also be exposed to temperatures up to 110 degrees Celsius for short periods. Additional features include: Improved wear resistance over other films. High gloss surface finish for a deep wet look. Requires no print treatment - accepts inks currently used for PC. Easily formed and die cut. High gloss surface finish for a deep wet look. Cold forming between 23 and 100 degrees Celsius. Heat deflection temperature of 135 degrees Celsius.
