BAYER CORPORATION POLYURETHANE CHEMIST RECEIVES AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY INDUSTRIAL INNOVATION AWARD

| The American Chemical Society (ACS) recently presented Peter H. Markusch, Ph.D., of Bayer Corporation, with its Industrial Innovation Award for his work in developing innovative and commercially successful polyurethane products. |
Specifically, Dr. Markusch was recognized for his development of products based on aliphatic isocyanates for light-stable coatings and polyurethane elastomers. He also was honored for his research and development in the use of polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate (PMDI) for the encapsulation and timed release of fertilizers applied to plants, lawns and golf courses. Dr. Markusch is Senior Development Fellow and Technology Advisor for Bayer's Polyurethanes Division, Pittsburgh. The American Chemical Society honored Dr. Markusch and three other chemists from the organization's Central and Great Lakes regions at a meeting and awards dinner in Grand Rapids, Mich., June 11-13. The award is presented to individuals whose creative innovations have contributed to the commercial success of their company. 'Dr. Markusch is widely recognized at Bayer and among his peers in the polyurethane industry as a leader in the development of new products and new applications for polyurethane chemistry,' said Lawrence D. Stern, President, Polyurethanes ? NAFTA, and Executive Vice President, Bayer Corporation. 'The fact that he is named as an inventor on more than 80 U.S. patents exemplifies his innovation and persistence in the laboratory. This is a well-deserved honor to a pioneering chemist.'
