STYLISH DESIGNER CHAIR THAT OFFERS MAXIMUM SEATING COMFORT
17 March 2005 - Bayer MaterialScience AG
| Italian product design enjoys an exceptional reputation worldwide. Probably no other country comes up with so many creative ideas that transform everyday objects into something really special – making them more appealing, fashionable and refined. |
And these are exactly the right words to describe a new chair from Italian company Fratelli Rossetto sas of Trebaseleghe, manufactured according to the company's own design. The chair not only looks good, but is also a real pleasure to sit in. The main reason behind this is the "FREE FORM" seat made of a Bayflex® 20/30 grade from Bayer MaterialScience AG's Italian systems house Deltapur. The characteristic feature of the seat is its half-shell-shaped surface which is both attractive to look at and extremely comfortable. Bayflex® 20/30 is a soft, elastic polyurethane foam with a closed outer skin and a cellular core that absorbs mechanical stresses very well. It is also extremely pleasant to the touch. “We were very impressed by this integral skin foam because it enabled us to produce extremely lightweight seats that proved highly flame retardant in specific tests,” says Dr. Patrizia Rossetto, sales manager and joint proprietor of Fratelli Rossetto. The Bayflex® grade used has a density of just 250 kg/m3. The FREE FORM seat therefore makes the entire chair, with its tall and slimline shape, lightweight and thus easy to handle. As the integral skin foam fulfills Italian flame retardance standard CSE RF 4/83, buyers of the designer furniture can be sure that it will not just satisfy their sense of style, but also meet their needs in terms of safety. “The low density of the integral skin foam enables the seats to be produced cost-effectively,” says Sandro Simonetto, a Deltapur expert. And there is no restriction on color: coating is performed directly in the mold while the seat is being shaped. This “in-mold coating” process involves applying a special coating to the side of the mold that gives the visible surface of the molding its shape. The mold is then closed and the polyurethane system injected. When the reaction is complete, the already coated seat is removed from the mold. Additional characteristics of Bayflex® 20/30 ensure that the seats remain looking good despite everyday use. The material is resistant to scratches and many household chemicals and is also easy to keep clean. Despite its good looks, the designer chair doesn't have to be treated like a museum piece.
