07 November 2005 - Corus
| Corus, the international metals company, has announced that Europressings, its specialist metal pressings and sub-assemblies business, has acquired certification to the ISO14001 environmental management standard. |
Corus, the international metals company, has announced that Europressings, its specialist metal pressings and sub-assemblies business, has acquired certification to the ISO14001 environmental management standard. The ISO14001 standard has been designed to help businesses introduce and improve controls for all areas relating to the environment including site layout, waste management, energy usage reduction, oil and chemical storage, noise and chemical spillage control and general housekeeping. ISO14001 is strongly supported by the automotive industry and accreditation to the standard is fast becoming a necessity for suppliers if they want to work with carmakers today. Commenting on achieving the accreditation, Helen Raven, business development manager, Corus Europressings said: "As a major supplier to the global automotive industry, it is important for our customers to know that we have robust environmental management systems in place which allow us to meet all legal requirements, improve working conditions for our employees and ultimately improve manufacturing processes." Congratulating Corus Europressings on their achievement, Martin Carbon, Purchasing Director, Keiper, a leading manufacturer of automotive seating, said: "One of our purchasing objectives is to increase the number of Keiper suppliers with ISO / TS 16949 and ISO 14001 certification. Therefore Keiper is delighted that Corus Europressings has achieved this accreditation". Corus Europressings, based in South Wales, supplies precision pressed components to a number of leading automotive companies including Keiper, Tenneco and BMW Group Plant Swindon. Mrs Raven continues: "Attaining this important environmental standard underlines our commitment to provide our automotive customers with the highest quality products manufactured using processes which minimise the impact on the environment. We believe that this is an important milestone and will help us to achieve our business goals of significantly growing our automotive business". Corus Europressings were audited independently by LRQA in September this year to achieve accreditation. Mrs Raven continues: "Importantly, having to meet third party approval means that our automotive customers can be assured that the environmental management systems operating within Corus Europressings meet the most stringent requirements removing the need for them to undertake further second party audits." In January this year, Corus Europressings also announced that it had achieved accreditation to ISO/TS 16949, one of the first steel companies in the world to achieve the standard. Aimed primarily at tier one suppliers ISO/TS 16949 is a technical specification developed and supported by vehicle manufacturers in Europe, America and Japan and will help define quality system requirements for the global automotive supply chain. Europressings has also achieved business accreditation to the International Safety Rating Standard, level 4 (ISRS). The ISRS standard assesses how a business identifies hazards in the workplace including injuries, damage to material, property and the environment and what plans a company has developed to minimise hazards and minimise losses.
