Granada Material Handling (Granada) has recently installed 31 of its Travsafe Horizontal Lifeline Systems at Corus's Process Engineering site in Workington, in order to bring the company in line with recent Health and Safety legislation. The Travsafe lines, designed to ensure the safety of maintenance fitters and electricians working on Corus's 25 cranes, became necessary after new Health and Safety legislation meant that the old method of attaching harnesses to handrails was unacceptable. The systems allow complete freedom of movement for working at height, whilst ensuring the safety of the maintenance workers, traversing horizontally over any given distance. The Travsafe line conforms to BS EN 795 and is designed to meet the requirements of CDM regulations and other safety regulations such as HSG33. Commenting on the installation, Corus's contact and services manager, Alan Woodend, said: "The Travsafe lines are used during all routine maintenance operations, and are invaluable in guaranteeing the safety of CPE engineers as they move about at altitude, carrying out their jobs in the knowledge that should they fall, they will always be perfectly safe. "The engineers found Travsafe very simple to use, attaching the connector of their harness to a traveller, which runs smoothly along the system and around angles and corners, meaning that whatever task is required of them, they can perform it with confidence." Following its success in installing the Travsafe lines, Granada has also been awarded the maintenance contract, and will continue to check the lines on a six-monthly basis. Commenting on the contract, GMH's sales engineer, Mark Sidwell, said: "Our reputation has been founded upon giving customers two things: the most suitable solutions and best advice. We are delighted with the success of the installation, and hope that this proves to be the beginning of a long and productive relationship with Corus."
