ASHLAND'S DERAKANE EPOXY VINYL ESTER RESIN OFFERS "BEST OF CLASS" PROTECTION FROM HEAT AND CORROSION
27 September 2005 - Ashland Specialty Chemical Company

Corrosive gasses coupled with bursts of extreme heat could perhaps describe the surface of Venus, but on Earth this mix can also be found in the pollution scrubbers attached to many industrial smokestacks. For scrubbers to work at extreme temperatures, specially-designed corrosion liners must be placed inside them, and Ashland Composite Polymers, a business group of Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc, provides the unique technology and expertise to tackle this highly corrosive environment.

According to independent scientific research, Ashland's DERAKANE 470HT epoxy vinyl ester resin offers a combination of heat- and corrosion- resistant properties better than any other epoxy vinyl ester resin in the world.

DERAKANE 470HT resin is a unique epoxy vinyl ester resin designed for problematic high-temperature applications, such as chimney and chemical processing stacks.

Unlike any other resin on the market today, it can withstand temperatures up to 240 degrees Celsius (446 degrees Fahrenheit) in addition to severe chemical environments. DERAKANE 470HT resin is also considerably less expensive and more corrosion resistant than other high-heat materials such as alloyed steel.

In a special application where heating coils were integrated into a chimney liner fabrication, Christen & Laudon of Bitburg-Staffelstein, Germany, used DERAKANE 470HT resin. The new insert used the integrated coils to heat the liner during plant startup, preventing rapid cool-down and condensation of the highly corrosive flue gas. This unique design provides the perfect combination of high temperature and chemical resistance needed for this demanding application.
