A new bunker sample retention system designed to ease full compliance with Marpol 73/78 Annex IV requirements for ships over 400 gross tons and platforms and drilling rigs engaged in voyages is now available from Drew Marine, a business group of Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc. The system is designed to relieve the often burdensome compliance requirements regarding the collection, retention and documentation of bunker fuel samples.

Drew Marine's bunker sample retention system consists of a sturdy, lockable aluminum sample storage cabinet, in-line fuel sampling devices, and logbook. The cabinet contains fuel sample bottles, tamper-evident seals, sample retention labels, a collection device with accessories, and a bunker log book for recording and tracking fuel samples. The logbook also provides the ship's crew with a concise summary of Marpol 73/78 Annex VI requirements and an explanation of fuel characteristics and fuel management techniques.

The Drew Marine Bunker Sample Retention System is the only Marpol 73/78 compliant system offering 2 configurations of manual continuous drip samplers: a simplex connection for use with a 4-liter container and a triplex design to collect samples directly into sample bottles. Drew Marine also offers the SAMPLE-TEC sampler, a unique flow-proportional heavy fuel sampling device also recommended in Annex VI.
