ASHLAND RELEASES VERSION 5.0 OF ARENA-FLOW COMPUTER-AIDED ENGINEERING SOFTWARE

Sand core engineering has taken another technological leap forward with the release of version 5.0 of the Arena-flow computer-aided engineering software for core making and tooling design from Ashland Casting Solutions, a business group of Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc. Advanced particle physics, proprietary mathematical models, new grid generation/analysis capabilities and several other significant enhancements have removed complexity and added functionality.

"With Arena-flow version 5.0 users can have advanced control over new particle flow, tooling wear, and core density models," said Mark Adamovits, senior product manager, Ashland Casting Solutions. "The improvements now available in version 5.0 provide users with several additional tools to improve productivity, reduce costs, shorten development timelines and eliminate costly process design errors. The additional development of a new, intuitive and more user-friendly graphical user interface has also generated some very positive feedback from our current user base in the Americas, Europe and Asia."

Ashland is the exclusive worldwide sales, marketing and service supplier for Arena-flow software in the sand casting industry. Arena-flow software version 5.0 offers five new particle physics modeling enhancements, eight improvements to the GUI, grid generation enhancements that better capture surface geometry, four numerical algorithm and "solver" enhancements and improved graphical output and visualization.

The software delivers a complete picture of the entire core-making process including the blowing, gassing and purging cycles, as well as the capability to analyze the virtual cores before investing significant time, money and material in the core-making process. Arena-flow software also allows tooling manufacturers to validate optimum designs in virtual space to ensure that cold box tooling is optimized the first time.

Arena-flow technology was developed by Arena, LLC of Albuquerque, N.M., in conjunction with General Motors, NASA, the Department of Energy and most recently, Ashland Casting Solutions. Arena-flow computer-aided engineering software technology can be accessed by software license agreements as well as contract engineering projects conducted in Ashland Casting Solution's Design Services Center.
