ExxonMobil Chemical introduces new metallocene-based polyethylene resins in India that will help packaging fabricators manufacture small packets or sachets for many consumer applications. Exceed(TM) 1018 EA is being launched at PlastIndia 2003 in New Delhi from February 15 to 20 and Exceed(TM) 1018 EA mLLDPE will be demonstrated at the DGP Windsor and Kolsite machine runs at the same tradeshow. DGP Windsor and Kolsite are leading Indian blown film machine manufacturers. As India's consumer markets move inevitably to sales of products - from hair shampoo to detergents to confectionery - in tiny pillow-like packets, packaging fabricators are scrambling to find the right resins to enable them to do this. A big technical challenge facing packaging fabricators in India is to find resins that will allow them to produce thin enough laminate with low coefficients of friction. The latter enables fabricators to run the laminate on high speed form-fill and seal machines to manufacture small pouches that are ideal for the manufacture of these small plastic packets that can carry products as small as 20 milliliters. ExxonMobil Chemical's Exceed 1018 EA resins have this capability. These resins will allow packaging fabricators to downgauge their films without compromising on COF requirements, while maintaining good mechanicals and excellent opticals. ExxonMobil Chemical has been developing applications for these resins for more than a year in India and now is ready for a full-scale launch of the product in India and other parts of Asia. "These are an exciting range of resins that we have piloted," said Rakesh Mehta, polyolefins sales manager, India Subcontinent, ExxonMobil Company India Private Limited. "The trials have been very satisfactory and the resins will have a wide range of applications. Exceed 1018 EA can be used for liquid packaging, detergent packaging, milk packaging, snack food and confectionery packaging, and multiple other flexible packaging applications to reduce leaker rate and improve packaging speed. "We combine our global strengths in polymer technology and application development with local presence and experience to add value to our customers in the packaging industry", Mr. Mehta added.
