ExxonMobil Chemical Company today announced it has commercialized Exxco 012 enhanced performance extrusion coating resin made from proprietary Exxpol catalyst technology. This new linear polymer is a cost-effective resin with plastomer-like performance, which brings significant value to the end-user.

"This product offers exceptional sealing properties and has proven to be effective in preventing leakage in food and liquid food packaging," said Mark Healey, Linear Low Density Polyethylene Segment Manager, ExxonMobil Chemical.

"This product will enable us to offer superior extrusion coating resin in global regions where we have previously had little presence."

With its 0.912 g/cc density and 12 g/10 minutes melt index, Exxco 012 resin was developed primarily for paper and paperboard extrusion coating applications. Its low seal initiation temperature (90°C), broad sealing window and strong seal strength allows it to outperform conventional resins currently used in extrusion coatings. Whether used in majority or minority blends of low density polyethylene, this resin offers the end-user significant value by enhancing properties while maintaining good processability.

Exxco 012 resin also provides tear strength and puncture resistance properties that are significantly better than those of LDPE. Its mechanical properties are similar to plastomers. Tests indicate that Exxco has better adhesion to oriented polypropylene film than either ethylene vinyl acetate or LDPE resins. This resin also can be used as a lamination film between two layers of OPP film.
