NEW METALLOCENE-BASED VLDPE NOW AVAILABLE FOR FOOD AND INDUSTRIAL PACKAGING

ExxonMobil Chemical Company announced today it has commercialized Exceed 1012CA, a new metallocene-based, very low density polyethylene. Exceed 1012CA was developed to provide better properties than currently available with conventional Ziegler-Natta VLDPE and ultra low density polyethylene resins.

"This new grade is a major step-out which increases the breadth of our current metallocene product offering for food and industrial packaging applications," said, Mark Healey, ExxonMobil Chemical's LLDPE polyethylene marketing manager. "For the first time, film fabricators, packaging designers and engineers will have a cost-effective, premium performance alternative to VLDPE or ULDPE."

Manufactured at the ExxonMobil Mont Belvieu, Texas facility, this very low density (0.912 g/cm3) Exceed product has exceptional toughness and strength. With dart impact three times that of conventional VLDPE and exceptional puncture resistance, film manufactured with Exceed mVLDPE offers downgauging opportunities to reduce costs. Its low sealing temperatures (85 degree Celsius) means less energy is required for sealing and its cold temperature impact performance is excellent for frozen food packaging uses. The good clarity, outstanding gloss and very low haze properties are equal to conventional VLDPE, making Exceed mVLDPE an excellent choice for food packaging displays and checkout barcode-scanning.
