Polymer Group is to more than double the spunbond fabrics capacity of its facility in Cali, Colombia to meet growing demand for its products in Latin America, where it holds the leading market share in the hygiene sector. The company has signed a contract to install a state-of-the-art Reifenhauser Reico IV spunbond line targeted primarily at serving the Andean markets. This new line will be fully dedicated to the hygiene market, providing high-quality fine denier top sheet and other materials for use in diapers. The addition of this line gives PGI's Bonlam Andina operation the ability to produce material that will satisfy the highest hygiene standards in the industry. The company, which has been operating in Cali since 1999, expects construction to begin at the existing site by the end of September of 2004. Commercial production of the new line is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2006. Polymer Group's chief executive officer, James L Schaeffer, stated: 'This line, along with the previously announced plans to install a third line in China, will provide our company with the needed volume to better serve our customers.'
