NEW ROOM TEMPERATURE CURING EPOXY RESISTS STERILIZATION
04 August 2004 - Master Bond
| Master Bond Inc. of Hackensack, New Jersey has introduced a new room temperature curing, two component epoxy adhesive, sealant, coating and casting material called EP42HT-2. This compound features high temperature resistance along with outstanding chemical resistance. It is widely used in medical devices because of its ability to withstand repeated sterilizations, including radiation, ethylene oxide, chemical sterilants and steam. In addition it fully complies with the testing requirements of USP Class VI plastics. |
EP42HT-2 has a 100 to 40 mix ratio by weight or a 100 to 50 mix ratio by volume. It cures readily at room temperatures or more quickly at elevated temperatures. It has a mixed viscosity of 3,500 cps and is castable in thicknesses exceeding 2-3 inches. EP42HT-2 has a service operating temperature range of -60°F to +450°F. It has superior resistance to inorganic and organic acids, alkalis, organic solvents and aromatic hydrocarbons. Master Bond EP42HT-2 has a tensile strength >12,000 psi and a tensile modulus of >450,000 psi. Its Shore D hardness is >75. Especially noteworthy are its excellent electrical insulation properties. It has a volume resistivity of >10^14 ohm-cm and a dielectric constant of 3.8 (60Hz).
