Akzo Nobel's Cross-linking Peroxides plant in Ningbo, China, has been presented with an environmental award. The site recently received the Green Enterprise in Environmental Performance honor for 2004 from the Zhenhai government. Sponsored by the ZH Environmental Protection Bureau, the award scheme assesses the environmental behavior of 70 plants during the course of a year and rates winners by means of colors, with green representing the best level of performance. Standards are measured in a number of categories, including waste treatment and emissions to air. The award follows on from the Ningbo Model Environmental Plant honor which the municipal government presented to the site last year in recognition of its HSE performance. Acquired by Akzo Nobel in 2000, the facility produces DiCumyl Peroxide and Cumene Hydroperoxide. DCP is used in the manufacturing of shoe wear and apparel, electrical cables, packaging and insulation materials. CHP is used in the production of several plastics.
