Employees at Eka Chemicals' Mo i Rana site in Norway have been presented with an award in recognition of their successful safety work. The honor is handed out every year by the Norwegian Smelterverkens Miljosekretariat under the auspices of the Federation of Norwegian Process Industries. However, due to routines in the organization's award procedures, the prize given to Mo i Rana recently was actually for the year 2003. "We are very pleased to have obtained such good results from the work effort we have prioritized in recent years," said Thore Michalsen, head of Eka Chemicals Rana. The site, which recently celebrated 12 years without a lost time injury, also received the same prize in 2000, with the jury awarding the latest honor in recognition of the location's preventive work. The organization behind the award, PIL, is a trade association for around 25 process industries in Norway which are all major power-consuming industries working with smelting or electrolysis
