ELECTRONICS RECYCLING MADE EASY
The Electronics Recycling Division of Onyx Environmental Services is launching a prepaid recycling service in the face of growing concerns over accumulation of mercury in the environment, regulations pertaining to the disposal of lighting and electronic waste, and concerns over compliance with changing regulations. 'The federal government and all 50 states have enacted regulations that govern the proper management of lighting and electronic waste such as fluorescent lamps, batteries and thermostats,' stated John McShane, Regional General Manager at Onyx. 'These items may contain hazardous waste, such as mercury and can contaminate our environment if improperly disposed. Failure to comply with regulations regarding the disposal of these items, puts companies at risk.' OnyxPak is designed by operations, health and safety, and sales managers as a means to offer a convenient, prepaid cost-effective recycling system. All OnyxPak boxes, pails and fibre drums are UN certified and approved for safe transportation of fluorescent lamps, TSCA-exempt PCB and non-PCB lamp ballast, dry cell batteries, mercury thermostats, dental amalgam waste, computer electronics and CRTs. 'As the largest lamp recycling company in the world, Onyx understands what it takes to offer meaningful indemnification and liability protection,' notes Mike Berens, National Sales Manager for Onyx. 'For more that 12 years we have been designing custom solutions and protecting customers by managing the risk associated with recycling mercury and hazardous waste. Our OnyxPak program is an extension of that and carries the liability protection customer's need when managing the risk of improper disposal,' continued Berens. Onyx sells OnyxPak direct to customers as well as through traditional lighting, electrical and specialty distributors. 'We work closely with our distributors,' stated Mike Berens. 'We have been refining our program for a year now and we believe that what we have today is the best in the industry. OnyxPak has been packaged in a manner to minimise handling and shipping costs, while adding value and increasing existing distributor margins,' continued Berens.
