NEW SYSTEM ALLOWS WIRELESS TRANSMISSION OF MEASURING DATA & POWER FROM WHEEL TO ON-BOARD ELECTRONICS
21 April 2006 - Kistler Instruments

In addition to the tried-and-tested, in-board telemetry data transmission unit (signal/energy supply and angle measurement), Kistler now offers an out-board transmission system Type 5248A with System 2000 technology.

In addition to the tried-and-tested, in-board telemetry data transmission unit (signal/energy supply and angle measurement), Kistler now offers an out-board transmission system Type 5248A with System 2000 technology.

Just like during internal transmission, the new system allows wireless transmission of measuring data and power from the wheel to the on-board electronics and vice versa. External signal transmission offers advantages when installed in vehicles with large drum brakes, which rule out internal transmission, such as trucks or vans with or without twin wheels. With a diameter of 100 mm and a height of 46 mm, the external transmission unit has a very compact design. The entire system weighs less than 0,5 kg (with-out track alignment linkage) and is electrically compatible with the in-board transmission.

Thus, users can choose flexibly between the external or internal transmission system without the need for readjusting any existing components and it can be mounted on the vehicle quickly: the easiest method involves attaching the track alignment linkage to the car body with the help of a vacuum lifting device. Telemetry allows the transmission of up to 24 channels at a transmission rate of 2 000 Hz. Adaptations for all members of Kistler's RoaDyn family, that use strain gage and quartz technology, are available.

About: Kistler Instruments
Kistler is one of the world's leading suppliers of measurement technology. Kistler pressure sensors, force sensors and accelerometers use the piezoelectric effect for precise measurement of mechanical properties.

Kistler is a privately-owned Swiss company which develops and manufactures sensors and electronics for measuring pressure, force and acceleration.

Additionally, the functionality of electronics plays an increasing role when defining a measuring system and even more frequently, electronics in fact becomes part of the sensor itself. Most of Kistler's products have been developed in close cooperation between leading universities or research facilities and Kistler's engineers.

Investments in Kistler's research department have led to the development of new crystals which enable reliable measurements to be taken under the most extreme environmental conditions. The results of our in-depth crystal research will give us a leading edge in advancing the state-of-the-art.
