HONEYWELL INTRODUCES NEW HD-128 HIGH SPEED DATA UNIT
23 April 2006 - Honeywell Specialty Materials

Honeywell announced today that it has greatly improved in-flight access to the Internet for the crews and passengers of business aircraft by offering its new HD-128 High Speed Data Unit.

Honeywell announced today that it has greatly improved in-flight access to the Internet for the crews and passengers of business aircraft by offering its new HD-128 High Speed Data Unit.

"The Gulfstream Service Center network has already installed the HD-128 HSU on four different Gulfstream model aircraft, the GIV, GV, G450 and G550, as retrofit applications. The unit is form/fit replacement compatible with any aircraft currently equipped with a Honeywell SATCOM installation," said Carl Esposito, Honeywell's Vice President of Gulfstream Programs.

The HD-128 HSU offers a 60W integrated high-power amplifier and two Inmarsat Swift64 channels. Using the Inmarsat Swift64 service, operators enjoy an increased packet data rate from the currently available 2.4 kilobits per second to 64 kilobits per second, per channel. By bonding the two Swift64 channels together, that rate can be doubled to 128 kbps, more than 50 times faster than what was previously available.

"That means onboard access to ground-based services and productivity of passengers is greatly improved," Esposito said. "Flight crew safety and efficiency is also enhanced through access to e-mail, Internet, video conferences, flight plans, electronic documentation updates and graphical weather information, as well as advance maintenance information."
