HONEYWELL HTS900 NEW TURBOSHAFT ENGINE CONTINUES TOWARD CERTIFICATION
24 April 2006 - Honeywell Specialty Materials

Honeywell announced today that it has successfully completed the second engine to test for the HTS900, with a production version dual-channel full authority digital engine control, achieving all designed power specifications.

"Honeywell is expanding its commitment in rotor powered aircraft with an engine we believe will deliver the reliability and low cost of ownership our customers have come to expect," said Barry Eccleston, Vice President and General Manager, Propulsion Systems Enterprise, Honeywell Engines Systems & Service. "With the combination of a next generation impeller, offering state of the art aerodynamic efficiency and a rugged wide chord axial compressor for improved erosion resistance and tolerance to foreign object damage, the HTS900 will be the engine of choice for future helicopter applications."

The HTS900 incorporates a new cooled gas producer turbine compressor technology for improved performance. The engine will produce more than 925 Shaft horsepower at Takeoff Power rating at sea level on a standard day. The engine is expected to deliver Specific Fuel Consumption levels of .54 lb per shaft horsepower or a 5% decrease from earlier Honeywell helicopter engines.

Customers will have their choice of two engine output shaft speeds, a 6,317 RPM version or a 9,598 RPM version, for either single or twin engine applications. Official certification is expected by mid-2006.

The HTS900 utilizes and shroud assembly that will deliver increased power with extremely low fuel consumption, and have a minimum of 15,000 component cycle lives. This combination results in very low operating costs for the engine's customers.

"Based upon proven capabilities, the HTS900 is expected to deliver superior reliability with unscheduled engine mean-time between removal of more than 4,000 flight hours," Eccleston said. "Honeywell has invested more than $30 million in engine improvements and is continuing to invest in new products like our Full Authority Digital Engine Controls and derivative engine models that will deliver more than 1,000 shaft horsepower in future HTS engines."
