HONEYWELL LAUNCHES NEW ACLAR FLEX MOISTURE
24 April 2006 - Honeywell Specialty Materials
| Honeywell today announced the launch of Aclar Flex moisture barrier film, which is specially designed for medical flexible applications, including overwraps, pouches and lidding. |
Packaging is of critical importance to the medical and healthcare industries, affecting safety, functionality, compliance and speed-to-marketplace. Aclar Flex is a crystal-clear, transparent film that allows the end-user to see into packages that once were opaque, simplifying quality control and inspection, labeling processes, and product identification. Aclar Flex film also locks out moisture by providing up to 10 times the barrier protection of other transparent packaging films such as PVC and polypropylene. The new film is flex-crack-resistant, biochemically inert, plasticizer and stabilizer-free, and can be sterilized using an autoclave or other sterilization methods. The new film is being introduced in three gauges to span a range of application requirements. "Aclar is the recognized brand leader in clear, moisture barrier films," said Rich Daniels, segment leader for Honeywell Specialty Films. "This new product brings even greater moisture barrier protection to the area of flexible packaging for medical applications where transparency is also a key requirement." Aclar Flex can also help strengthen branding by displaying unique colors, appearance and form. Honeywell also helps develop distinct advantages through packaging that combine tamper evidence and counterfeit detection with child resistance and senior friendliness. Aclar Flex film can also be used in new drug delivery technologies including medicine that patients wear, medicine that is inhaled, medicine that melts in a patient's mouth, and micronized pulmonary delivery systems. Aclar is a polychlorotrifluoroethylene fluoropolymer film that is used extensively in pharmaceutical packaging and many other applications because of its excellent moisture barrier and chemical stability. Aclar film is crystal clear, biochemically inert, chemical-resistant, nonflammable, and plasticizer- and stabilizer-free. In addition to Aclar, Honeywell Specialty Films manufactures Capran Emblem and Capran Medallion, which are biaxially oriented nylon-6 films, also known as biaxially oriented polyamide films; Capran heat stabilized nylon films; Aclon fluoropolymer resins, which provide the highest moisture barrier of any clear thermoplastic resins; and Clarus films for high performance industrial applications.
