NEW WIREWOUND / METAL OXIDE RESISTOR SERIES OPTIMIZED FOR HIGH-VOLUME REQUIREMENTS
04 May 2006 - Vishay Electronic

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced three new series of axial-leaded wirewound / metal oxide resistors competitively priced for high-volume applications. The new devices, for power ratings from 1 W up to 20 W, are intended for applications that require capacitive discharge, short term pulsing, high power dissipation, voltage division, and dc-to-dc conversion in end products including white goods, home entertainment systems, power tools, and power supplies.

The new CA high-volume wirewound resistor is auto-insertable for easy integration into kitchen appliances, automotive devices, and entertainment / consumer devices. It is available in two models with power ratings of 1 W and 2 W, a resistance range of 0.1 Ω to 1 kΩ with tolerances of ±5% and ±10%, a temperature coefficient of ±350 ppm/°C, and an operating temperature range of ?65 °C to +275 °C. A high-temperature coating provides environmental protection.

The Vishay Dale CP high-volume wirewound / metal oxide resistor offers a high power-to-size ratio with a power rating range of 2 W to 20 W and length-by-width dimensions ranging from 18 mm by 7 mm to 60 mm by 14 mm with heights from 7 mm to 13.5 mm. Depending on resistance value, the new CP resistors are available with a wirewound element on woven fiberglass core or with a metal oxide element on ceramic core.

Resistance values for the CP high-volume resistor range from 0.1 Ω to 1 kΩ in the wirewound technology and 83 Ω to 50 kΩ in the metal oxide technology, both with tolerances of ±5% and ±10%. The device features a temperature coefficient of ±400 ppm/°C and an operating temperature range of ?65 °C to +275 °C. The resistor's ceramic case is available with circuit board stand-offs. The cement potting compound and ceramic case provide high thermal conductivity in a fireproof package that can be used in applications that require UL approval.

The CPCC and CPCF high-volume resistors are space-saving solutions that mount vertically on the printed circuit board. Combining power ratings from 3 W to 10 W and length-by-width dimensions from 12 mm by 8 mm to 16 mm by 12 mm - with heights from 25 mm up to 35 mm, respectively - these resistors also deliver a high power-to-size ratio. Resistance values range from 0.1 Ω to 50 kΩ. Like the CP resistors, the CPCC and CPCF devices utilize wirewound and metal oxide technology and feature a temperature coefficient of ±400 ppm/°C and an operating temperature range of −65 °C to +275 °C, as well as the thermal benefits of a ceramic casing and cement potting compound.

Samples of the new resistor series are available now, with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks for production quantities.
