Advanced Polymer Alloys, a division of Ferro Corporation and the world's leading supplier of Melt-Processible Elastomers, today announced that its Alcryn Melt-Processible Rubber has been selected for use in an automotive satellite antenna system offered in a wide range of General Motors vehicles.

Alcryn MPR 2100 series was selected for its exceptional resistance to ultraviolet light, abrasion resistance, bonding capabilities to engineered plastic substrates, chemical resistance, and its outstanding elastomeric performance. Alcryn MPR also provides superior radio signal attenuation, allowing the automaker to bundle satellite radio and on-board navigation systems into a signal antenna without negatively impacting reception.

"An antenna system is a deceptively difficult application, and success depends on how the materials work together to withstand the constant environmental demands placed on the item and the reception issues involved," said Jeff Senich, business development manager for APA. "Because it is an MPR, Alcryn's physical properties significantly extend the life of the system, enabling the vehicle owner to delight in the uninterrupted use of the high-tech entertainment and navigational products."

The use of Alcryn MPR in the antenna application provides several important benefits, including:
• Long use life due to resilience against years of exposure to road salt, windshield washer fluids, polish, soap, etc.
• Maintains system reception quality
• Ability to withstand car washings with abrasive brushes
• Holds color well and remains flexible over the life of the vehicle
• Processes very easily, bonding well to ABS, PC, or PC/ABS base materials in two component designs
• Easy to specify because Alcryn products are approved by GM and other major automotive OEMs.
