Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the addition of two miniature, low-voltage, surface-mount oscillators, rated for 1.8-V and 2.5-V input voltages, to the company's XOSM family of clock oscillators. Intended to enable design of better-performing, longer-running battery-powered electronic devices, the new devices occupy the same small footprint as a standard 5x7 oscillator while providing low-voltage options that improve performance of clock oscillator circuits in portable computing and telecommunications equipment such as notebook computers, cell phones, pagers, and PDAs. The new XOSM-571 (1.8 V) and XOSM-572 (2.5 V) serve as lower-voltage alternatives to Vishay's standard XOSM-57 (5 V) and XOSM 573 (3.3 V) surface-mount oscillators. Both the XOSM-571 and XOSM-572 feature very small dimensions of 0.275 in. by 0.197 in. by 0.63 in. [7.0 mm by 5.0 mm by 1.6 mm], and each package offers a tri-state enable/disable function that contributes to efficient operation. With lower input voltage ratings, these devices also reduce heat dissipation and thereby improve system reliability. The Vishay Dale devices released today offer a frequency range of 1 MHz to 100 MHz with frequency stability options of ±25 ppm, ±50 ppm, and ±100 ppm. Typical aging for the first year is ±5 ppm. The new oscillators, which are HCMOS-compatible and compatible with IR re-flow processes, are available in tape-and-reel packaging. All devices in the XOSM family of clock oscillators are lead (Pb)-free. Samples and production quantities of the XOSM-571 and XOSM-572 are available now. Lead time for production quantities is eight weeks.
