A dual high-voltage, high-current Schottky rectifier that combines 100-V reverse voltage and 60-A forward current capabilities in the TO 220AB package was announced today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Offering twice the current handling of typical 100-V Schottky rectifiers in the TO-220AB, the new Vishay Semiconductors MBR60100CT is intended for secondary rectification of ac-to-dc and dc-to-dc converters and for freewheeling and polarity protection in power supplies for desktop and notebook PCs, servers, telecommunications exchanges, HDTV equipment, and other systems incorporating high-power switchmode power supplies. With 60 A forward current capability and a high 100 V reverse voltage, the new Schottky rectifier is optimized for 100 W to 300 W power supply applications. The new device also features a very low typical forward voltage of 0.64 V, low maximum reverse leakage current of 20 mA, and typical leakage current of just 8.5 mA - much lower than the 11 mA offered by the next-best competing device. Together, these very low industry-leading values combine to reduce power loss in end systems. Other key electrical specifications for the MBR60100CT Schottky rectifier include a high forward surge current of 350 A, a large peak non-repetitive reverse surge energy per leg of 25 mJ (8/20 µs), high avalanche energy capability of 20 mJ per leg (minimum at 40 mH), and a high-voltage rate of change of 10,000 V/µs. The maximum operating junction temperature is 175 °C.
