NEW THIN FILM HIGH-VALUE PRECISION SINGLE IN-LINE RESISTORS ARE FIRST TO OFFER LOW RESISTANCE TOLERANCE
16 July 2004 - Vishay Electronic

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today announced the release of a new series of thin film high-value precision single in-line resistors with resistance tolerance down to an industry-low ±0.01% over a range of 50 kilohms to 10 megohms.

The new Vishay Thin Film HVPS series of discrete resistors is intended for instrumentation amplifiers and precision voltage dividers in products such as medical and test equipment requiring high precision over a broad resistance range. HVPS devices offer designers compact and readily available alternatives to the wirewound resistors previously required for such applications.

In addition to precision performance over a high-value resistance range with a very low resistance tolerance, the thin film resistors released today provide excellent stability of 500 ppm (2000 hours at +70 °C) and temperature coefficient ratio values of 25 ppm/°C, 15 ppm/°C, 10 ppm/°C, and an ultra-low ±5 ppm/ ±C.

The HVPS1 is available with a working voltage of 250 V, a power rating of 0.125 W, a resistance range of 50 kilohms to 5 megohms, and dimensions of 0.240 in. by 0.260 in. by 0.260 in. [6.096 mm by 6.604 mm by 2.793 mm] with 0.100 in. [2.54 mm] pin spacing. Rated for a working voltage of 300 V, a power rating of 0.250 W, and a resistance range from 100 kilohms to 10 megohms, the HVPS2 measures 0.320 in. by 0.260 in. by 0.110 in. [8.128 mm by 6.604 mm by 2.794 mm] and features a 0.200 in. [5.08 mm] pin spacing.

A flame-resistant conformal coating that meets the UL94V-X rating protects epoxy body of the resistors, each of which also features a 99.6% alumina substrate, a TAMELOX (passivated nichrome) resistive element, and two copper terminals with a nickel barrier. Both resistor options are rated for an operating temperature range of -55 °C to +125 °C.

Samples and production quantities of the new high-value precision resistors are available now, with a lead time of 10 weeks for larger orders.
